Recognising heart attack

Another awesome group through our public courses in March 2023.

We had some productive class led korero around recognising the signs of heart attack and some of the lesser known symptoms, especially talking about the feeling of indigestion as a possible sign of heart attack.

Our public courses give an opportunity to share a wider range of experiences and knowledge from the community.

Signs and symptoms of a heart attack

  • Chest pain

  • Nausea and vomiting

  • Jaw/neck/back pain - radiating

  • squeezing/crushing pressure or pain in chest

  • shortness of breath

  • fainting

  • anxiety/sense of impending doom

  • indigestion

  • fatigue

A heart attack is an emergency and the faster medical treatment is accessed the better the outcome.

  • Call emergency services (111 in NZ )

  • Access and apply an AED

  • Do not delay CPR (30-2 no matter who) if someone has had a sudden collapse.

  • Remember DRSABCD
